Sweden provides money for Ukraine's arms purchases

Sweden and the UK announce further financial support for Ukraine for the purchase of American weapons.

- We will announce a third Purl package for Ukraine, said Defence Minister Pål Jonson (M) when he arrived at the NATO ministerial meeting.

The amount of the support will be announced later on Thursday.

Purl is a support function in NATO where member states provide financial assistance to Ukraine so that the country can cover urgent needs for military equipment through purchases from the US.

Sweden has previously, together with Nordic and Baltic countries, donated a total of one billion dollars in two support packages in August and November last year.

British Defense Minister John Healy announced in connection with Thursday's NATO meeting that Britain is donating half a billion pounds for the purchase of air defense systems.
