ICE operations
ICE to leave Minneapolis: "No more bloodshed"

The ICE operation in Minneapolis is to end. This is what Trump's border chief Tom Homan, who is leading the operation, says, according to American media.

A "significant winding down" will begin this week and continue next week, according to Homan. Trump is on board, he adds.

- I am pleased to announce that our operation [...] has yielded the successful results we came here for, he says and adds:

- I do not want to see any more bloodshed.

The ICE operation in the city has received enormous attention both in the United States and abroad after the two American citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti were shot dead by agents. It has caused major protests in the United States and enormous criticism of the Trump administration.

Climate Policy
Trump tears up the foundation of US climate work

Donald Trump is overturning a landmark decision by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that greenhouse gas emissions threaten the health of Americans, US media reports.

In doing so, he is pulling the legal rug out from under the US's work against global warming – the EPA no longer has the right to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. AFP describes it as the president's biggest blow to climate work to date.

- Fossil fuels have saved millions of lives and lifted people out of poverty, Trump says at a press conference, claiming that the EPA's decision "had no basis in fact or law".

The research findings in the EPA's so-called "endangerment finding" from 2009 have formed the basis for the federal authorities' climate work.

Trump also announces that he is removing all emissions regulations for cars.

Trump asks Pentagon to buy electricity from coal-fired power

Donald Trump is asking the US's enormous defense complex to buy electricity produced with coal-fired power plants, several media outlets report.

- We will buy a lot of coal through the Pentagon. It will be cheaper and actually much more efficient than what we have been using for many, many years, he said at a press conference attended by several coal workers.

Trump wants to strengthen the country's coal sector through the decision. Coal power has been phased out in favor of other forms of energy for many years because coal power has such a large negative impact on the climate.

Trump is a big proponent of fossil fuels and regularly says that climate change is a hoax, despite the fact that the collective science says the opposite.
