Security in Europe

After the drone alarm – EU reviews rules and zones

The EU wants to review drone registrations and create drone-banned zones in certain critical locations in Europe after the many drone alarms last year. This is reported by AFP and Reuters.

– We have seen that anything can be used as a weapon against us, said EU Technology and Security Commissioner Henna Virkkunen during a press conference on Wednesday.

Last autumn, there were numerous reports of drones over several cities and airports in Belgium, Germany and Denmark being affected.

Russia's threat: Measures if Greenland is militarized

Russia is threatening to take "military countermeasures" if the West increases its military presence in Greenland. This was the statement from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday, according to AFP.

Several European countries have sent small groups of soldiers to Greenland in recent weeks after US President Donald Trump said he wanted to annex the Arctic island.

According to Trump, Greenland needs to be protected from being conquered by Russia or China and he has argued that it would be better if the territory was American, instead of Danish.
