USA falls in a new corruption index. Independent voices are being restricted and government decisions are being undermined, according to the report.

When Transparency International releases its annual index of perceived corruption, the USA ends up with 64 points out of 100. That's one point less than last year - but a full 12 points less than in 2015, when the USA had the highest score according to the current method of measurement, which has been done since 2012.

The report does not reflect everything that happened in 2025, the authors note - which, however, state that the political climate in the USA has deteriorated for over a decade.

Among other things, it is mentioned that public offices in the United States have been used to restrict non-governmental organizations and journalists, that the independence of the judiciary has been undermined, and that the decision-making of the prosecutor's office has been politicized.
