Colonel arrested – believed to have spied for China

A colonel in the Greek Air Force has been arrested on suspicion of spying on behalf of China, Greek media report.

The 54-year-old man is described as a communications specialist who previously served at the Greek Air Force headquarters with access to sensitive NATO information.

According to Greek media, the man confessed during his arrest. He is said to have told that he has collaborated with Chinese intelligence after being recruited at a conference abroad, writes the newspaper Kathimerini.

Suspicions were raised when the man made a private trip to China without informing his workplace. At least two more people are being investigated, ERT reports.
