Russian politician branded a “foreign agent”
Russian authorities have branded liberal politician Boris Nadezhdin a “foreign agent,” preventing him from running in this fall’s State Duma elections.
Nadezhdin is accused, among other things, of spreading “false information” about the Russian government’s policies and decisions and about Russia’s electoral system.
“I will continue to fight,” Nadezhdin told the Telegram channel Ostorozhno Novosti.
He also says he will continue to run in the elections to the lower house, the Duma. However, according to a 2024 amendment to the law, “foreign agents” are prohibited from running in elections.
Two years ago, Russia's Supreme Court stopped Nadezhdin from running in the presidential election, despite him having collected the 100,000 signatures required to qualify.
