Reports from the EU: Thousands more added to sanctions list
EU member states have agreed to expand sanctions related to the war in Ukraine to include over 1,600 additional individuals, companies, and organizations, diplomats told the news agency AFP.
This significant expansion of the sanctions list has been in the works for several weeks and is set to be formally approved by EU foreign ministers at their meeting in Luxembourg on Monday.
The new sanctions—consisting of travel bans and the freezing of any assets held within the EU—target primarily individuals and companies with ties to the Russian defense industry.
In total, more than 3,000 individuals, companies, and organizations were already on the sanctions list—including Russian President Vladimir Putin and several other members of the Russian power elite.
