A Palestinian man has been shot dead by the Israeli military during a clash with settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian sources.

Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians harvesting olives in an area north of Nablus, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the West Bank and the mayor of the village of Burqa.

"Clashes broke out between young men from the village and settlers before (Israeli) occupation forces intervened and opened live fire on the Palestinians," said Mayor Ammar Salah.

The man who was killed has been identified as a 44-year-old member of the Palestinian Authority's security forces.

In a comment to AFP, the Israeli military stated that the incident is being investigated.
