Police in Finland have launched an investigation into suspected break-ins at the homes of numerous Members of Parliament.

A preliminary investigation is underway, and at this stage, the incidents are being investigated as attempted aggravated theft, the Helsinki police announced.

Finland’s Parliament held an extraordinary security meeting a few weeks ago, during which MPs were informed about break-ins or attempted break-ins potentially linked to a foreign power. A "significant" number of MPs reportedly raised the alarm regarding possible intruders.

"Traces have been found, and it is believed that they were intended to be discovered," Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-Aho said last Thursday.

"As the investigation is ongoing, the police are not commenting on the possible background, perpetrators, or motives behind the incidents," the Helsinki police stated.
