The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is being partially shut down – as Democrats and Republicans have been unable to agree on the immigration police ICE.
ICE itself will, however, be able to operate in the future.
In early February, a budget package was approved that guarantees funding for state spending through September. However, in an agreement, the DHS budget was excluded after disagreements between the congressional parties over, among other things, ICE, which falls under DHS.
Among other things, the Democrats have demanded that ICE personnel not wear masks during operations.
The shutdown began at 06:00 Swedish time.
However, ICE will continue to operate with funds approved in last year's state budget. Other agencies under DHS will be primarily affected.
