Europe and the US belong together, declares US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in his speech at the Munich Security Conference.

Marco Rubio began his speech by recalling the importance NATO has had throughout history. He gave an example of World War II when the US and Europe cooperated:

- A civilization was healed, said Rubio.

The euphoria after the victory led to a belief that trade and a rules-based world order would be enough to create peace and prosperity. But this was wrong, according to Rubio, who addressed, among other things, mass immigration, which he believed had been a mistake.

Rubio then continued to talk about the relationship between the US and Europe.

- The US was founded 250 years ago. But the roots were on this continent, he said.

– We are part of the same civilization, a Western civilization.

– We care deeply about your future, he said, emphasizing that the United States wants Europe to be strong, and that this desire is the reason why President Trump is speaking out.

But the system needs to be reformed, according to the American Secretary of State. And in that work, the United States under Donald Trump wants to be a leader, according to him.

The UN has had no role in resolving ongoing conflicts, also sounded a boot from Rubio to the international community.

The audience applauded several times during Rubio's speech.

During last year's security conference in Munich, US Vice President JD Vance, who gave a similar speech, shocked the world with his tough tone towards Europe.
