President's son leads the hunt – honored with medal
Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Ugandan general and son of President Yoweri Museveni, is honored with a medal by his father. The reason is his work in "neutralizing opposition forces", reports the Kenyan newspaper Daily Nation.
Kainerugaba has a leading role in the police and security forces' hunt for opposition leader Robert Kyagulay, who operates under the name Bobi Wine. On social media, Kainerugaba has previously threatened the opposition leader with beheading.
Yoweri Museveni has ruled Uganda since the 1980s. According to official figures, he received just over 70 percent of the vote in the presidential election in January.
Bobi Wine threatened with castration: "The election was stolen"
Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine went underground a day after the country held a presidential election and Wine accuses President Yoweri Museveni of election fraud. From his hiding place, Wine – whose real name is Robert Kyagulay – has been interviewed by Die Zeit.
The newspaper writes that Wine is being hunted by the police and military and that leading politicians on social media have threatened him with various brutal punishments, such as beheading and castration.
According to Museveni’s figures, he himself received just over 70 percent of the votes and Wine 25. The opposition leader says that Museveni has stolen the election victory from him
During the election campaign, Wine’s election rallies were subjected to systematic sabotage. Several of his election workers were beaten or murdered.
“I am alive and I want to continue living as long as possible,” says Wine, who is originally one of East Africa’s most popular artists.
The German newspaper’s reporter writes that Wine ends the interview by singing in a shaky voice “One day is everything is going to be fine.”
