Cartel leader “El Mencho” killed – code red activated
Cartel leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho”, has been killed by the Mexican army. This is according to information provided to Mexican media.
Oseguera, who has been the leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel, has been one of the most wanted criminals in the world for several years. The United States was ready to pay $15 million for information leading to his arrest.
Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro warns that violence could follow the operation and urges residents of the state to stay home.
“I have instructed to immediately establish a security council with authorities at all three levels of government and to activate code red in order to prevent acts directed against the population,” he writes on X.
Special forces strike against “El Mencho” – seven dead
It was Mexican special forces who killed the cartel leader “El Mencho”. This is what the Mexican embassy in Washington wrote in a post on X.
A total of seven suspected cartel members were killed, one of whom was the highly sought-after leader. In addition, two other cartel members were arrested and armored vehicles and weapons were seized, including rocket launchers capable of shooting down aircraft.
Three soldiers were injured in the raid, which was prompted by intelligence work that also involved the United States.
