Border Patrol in Minneapolis to be equipped with body cameras
Updated 23.30 | Published 23.04
All federal border patrol officers in the field in Minneapolis, and the immigration police ICE, will be equipped with body cameras immediately. Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security in the United States, writes on X.
According to Noem, the project with body cameras will be expanded nationally as funding becomes available.
“We will quickly procure and distribute body cameras to police officers within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) across the country,” she writes.
The announcement comes after the high-profile shootings in Minneapolis in recent weeks, where two American citizens who were protesting the hunt for undocumented migrants were shot dead by the immigration police ICE and federal border police.
The events have sparked strong protests among Minnesota residents, while a growing number of Democrats in the US Congress want to impeach Kristi Noem.
