Donald Trump wants more countries to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
He is calling for a team effort – but he just got a rebuff from France.
The French Foreign Ministry says that no ships will be sent.
US President Donald Trump is urging other countries to send warships to work with the US to secure oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which is threatened by Iran.
"Hopefully, China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK and others affected by this artificial restriction will send ships to the area," Trump writes on the Truth Social platform.
But now the US president is getting a rebuff from France.

The country's Foreign Ministry answered questions in a series of posts on X"No. The (French) aircraft carrier group remains in the eastern Mediterranean," the official account wrote.
It continued:
“France’s mission remains: defensive and protective”
And added:
“Stop spreading scaremongering
Since the outbreak of war two weeks ago, Iran has attacked and threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz – where about a fifth of the world’s oil production passes.
The other countries named have not yet responded or commented on Trump’s Truth Social post.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said nothing about any ships, but stated on Saturday evening that he was considering helping by sending drones to the area.

The same post also contains a contradictory formulation that the US “destroyed 100 percent of Iran’s military capacity”, but that it is still easy for Iran to strike with drones, missiles and mines against the important shipping lane.“One way or another” the strait will soon be open and safe, according to Trump.
In another post, Trump emphasizes that a joint effort to secure Hormuz traffic is necessary.
“This should have always been a team effort,” he writes.
