Israel has an acute shortage of anti-ballistic missiles
Israel has informed the US that the country's anti-ballistic missiles, which protect against ballistic missile attacks, are running out. This is what American sources tell Semafor.
According to the sources, Israel is said to have started the war against Iran even though it already knew that the stocks were running low. The US is also said to have known about the problem for several months.
- It is something we expected, says one of the sources.
However, the US is said to have plenty of anti-ballistic missiles left. It is unclear whether the US will sell or give its own to Israel.
Expert: American forces may land on Kharg
If the US enters Iran with ground troops, it is unlikely that they will do so on the mainland, says Peter Haldén, senior lecturer in war science at the Swedish National Defence University, to DN.
Haldén believes that the most likely scenario for an American ground invasion is that soldiers land on the important oil island of Kharg. This would put further pressure on Iran if American troops took over the oil terminals.
A ground operation on the mainland could escalate the war and also be unpopular with Trump at home, according to Haldén. A landing would also entail a great risk to the soldiers' lives, as Iran would fire on them with drones.
– But one should not think that everything that is happening is part of a long-term plan, especially not when it comes to Trump.
Iran: All of Ukraine is now a legitimate target
By contributing drones to Israel's side, Ukraine has made itself a party to the war, and Iran therefore considers all of Ukrainian territory a legitimate target. Ibrahim Azizi, chairman of Iran's National Security Council, wrote in a post on X.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry points out that Iran has long supplied Russia with drones and technology.
- It's like a serial killer justifying his crimes by referring to the Criminal Code, a spokesperson told Ukrainian Pravda.
Earlier in the day, Shahriar Amouzegar, Iran's envoy to Ukraine, also came out and said that Iran does not take the Ukrainian presence in the war seriously.
- We see Ukraine's actions as a joke, he told AFP.
Sources: US rules out talks with Iran – Trump doesn’t want to
The Trump administration has rejected attempts by allies in the Middle East to initiate diplomatic talks with Iran, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Iran has also dismissed all possibilities for a ceasefire before the attacks from the US and Israel cease, according to two senior Iranian sources.
Several countries have reportedly tried to mediate between the parties. Oman, among others, is said to have tried to open a channel for talks.
A source within the White House confirms that Trump has rejected attempts to establish a dialogue.
– He is not interested in that right now, and we will continue with the effort without interruption, the source says.
