South Korea: North Korea has fired about ten missiles

North Korea has fired about ten ballistic missiles, the defense ministry of neighboring South Korea reported, according to Reuters.

The South Korean news agency Yonhap notes that the missiles were fired on the same day that the United States and South Korea began an eleven-day military exercise in the area. Pyongyang has criticized the exercise, claiming that its goal is to prepare for an invasion of North Korea. Washington and Seoul say the exercise is purely defensive.

Japanese media report that the missiles have likely already hit. The coast guard is urging ships in the area to be vigilant.

Hegseth: "The faster Ellison takes over CNN, the better"

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth does not like how the country's media reports on the Iran war. He is particularly critical of the television channel CNN's information that the White House was not ready for Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz, several media outlets report.

- The sooner David Ellison takes over the channel, the better, he says at a press conference.

Ellison is the owner of Paramount Skydance, which is expected to buy Warner Bros Discovery, which is CNN's parent company. Ellison is considered an ally of Trump and there are concerns that the purchase will affect how traditionally liberal CNN reports on Trump.

Ellison has not commented on Hegseth's remarks, but told CNBC last week that CNN's editorial independence "absolutely must be maintained" after a potential purchase.
