White House: Meeting with China may need to be postponed

The White House has now confirmed that it is considering the possibility of the meeting between Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping being postponed. The reason is said to be the war in Iran and the importance of the American president's focus on the subject.

Postponing the meeting would increase the already existing tensions between Washington and Beijing, writes Reuters.

Political situation in France
Many votes for National Rally in the big cities

The far-right National Rally party looks to do well in the French municipal elections, several media outlets report. Among other things, the party managed to retain power in Perpignan in southern France, the only major city where the party governs.

At the same time, the party is making progress in several large cities that have long been strong strongholds for centrist parties, writes Politico. They mention Marseille - the country's second largest city - where candidate Franck Allisio looks set to threaten the incumbent mayor Benoit Payan.

Analysts and experts see the municipal elections in France as a sign of next year's presidential election. The National Rally hopes to win the election and replace Emmanuel Macron, who is stepping down after serving two terms.

The first round of the municipal elections was held on Sunday and a second round is scheduled for next Sunday. In most municipalities, the results are already clear after the first round, but in large cities the second round is expected to be decisive.

Political situation in Cuba

Cuba shut down – power outages throughout the island

There is a power outage throughout Cuba, and the country's 11 million inhabitants are without electricity, Cuban authorities say, according to the AP.

A "complete disconnection" of the island's electrical system has occurred, the Ministry of Energy and Mines announced in a post on X.

"The cause is being investigated and procedures for restoration have been activated," the ministry wrote.

Cuba has not received any oil deliveries in more than three months, and relies on solar cells and natural gas. Most recently, a week ago, the western part of the island was hit by extensive power outages.
