Democracy in the world
Report: Major decline for democracy in the US

Since Donald Trump began his second term, the level of democracy in the US has fallen to the same levels as in 1965. This is shown by V-Dem's annual democracy report according to TT.

- According to our data, this is the largest decline for democracy in US history, says Professor Staffan I Lindberg, director of the International Democracy Research Institute.

Previously, the US was in 20th place on the list of countries with the strongest democracy, but in this year's report it slips down to 51st place.

The report cites several reasons for the decline. These include the rule of law, human rights and freedom of expression.

Political situation in Cuba
Sources: US demands Cuban president resign during talks

The Trump administration has told Cuba that the country's President Miguel Díaz-Canel must resign if the countries are to make any progress in their negotiations. This is stated by four informed sources for the New York Times.

One of the sources believes that the demand is not an ultimatum, but has been proposed as a positive step that could lead to productive agreements. At the same time, the person says that the US is making it appear that no agreement can be concluded between the countries while Díaz-Canel is in power.

Recently, Trump has often spoken of achieving regime change in Cuba. It is unclear whether he intends to use military force.

- I actually believe that I will have the honor of taking Cuba. I believe that I can do whatever I want with it, Trump said on Monday evening Swedish time.

Fuel Prices About to Drive Up Airfares

Rising fuel costs could make summer flights more expensive, reports SREkonomiekot. The trend is already noticeable, according to Mattias Nyman at Flygresor.se. The site has compared prices for the eight most common destinations from Sweden.

– When we look at the summer months, we see pretty clear figures on that, he says.

Air France-KLM has announced that the price of long-haul flights will be increased by a few hundred Swedish kronor. Hong Kong Airlines has also announced increases, as have SAS and Qantas Airlines.

According to Wired, the price of jet fuel has doubled since the Iran war began just over two weeks ago.
