Trump's anger after the diss from the UK
Donald Trump is angry and disappointed with the British Prime Minister.
This after Keir Starmer refused to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
- I think it's terrible. I was very surprised, Trump said at a press conference.
US President Donald Trump has appealed to his European allies to send military forces to the Strait of Hormuz.
France, Canada, Germany and Australia have previously refused to send ships. Now British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also says that he will not send any warships.
The announcement made Trump angry and disappointed.
He said today that he was “very surprised” by the news and is not at all happy with Britain’s actions.
Trump’s anger was aroused after Keir Starmer insisted that Britain should not be drawn into a “major war” in the Middle East. In connection with this, he also clearly rejected Trump’s call to send warships to the area.
Wants to end the war
At the press conference at 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister instead said that he wants to see “an end to the war as quickly as possible”.
When Trump met the media later in the afternoon. He commented on Starmer’s statement.
– I was very surprised by Britain, because two weeks ago I asked: why don’t you send some ships there? And he [Starmer] really didn’t want to do it, the president said according to the Daily Mail.
He continued, addressing Starmer directly:
- We have stood by you. You are our oldest ally, and we spend a lot of money on NATO and all these things to protect you.
He added:
- I think it is terrible. I was very surprised.
Oil prices have risen
Trump also said he asked Starmer why the prime minister needed to talk to his advisers before making a decision to send a warship to the Persian Gulf.
Trump said he does not need advisers to understand what will happen to oil prices.
About a fifth of the world's oil supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz, but the strait has been effectively closed by Iran, which has caused prices to rise sharply and increased fears of a global recession.
