Two merchant ships have been fired at in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Reuters.
The IRGC has opened fire on one, according to UKMTO.
The alarms come shortly after Iran closed the strait again.
At least two merchant ships have been fired at as they tried to pass through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, according to Reuters, citing sources.
According to the British maritime watchdog UKMTO, two small boats from Iran's Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a ship north of Oman.
Both the ship and the crew are said to be unharmed.
Several rounds
The alarms come just an hour after Iran said it had closed the Strait of Hormuz again.
There have been many rounds of speculation about the opening and closing of the strait in recent weeks. Iran began blocking it a few days after the war began.
Late last week, President Donald Trump announced that he would also impose a blockade – against ships heading to and from Iranian ports.
Just a few days later, Trump said that he had opened the strait, which China would be happy about. The same day, Lebanon and Israel agreed to a ceasefire.
And the next day, Friday, both Iran and the US announced that the strait was open again.
But it wasn’t long before Trump announced that their blockade was in place. This in turn angered Iran, which called the US blockade “piracy” and began threatening to close the strait again because the US was not fulfilling its agreement – which is why the Strait of Hormuz was closed on Saturday.
“Therefore, the Strait of Hormuz is now closed again and Iran’s approval is required for passage,” the military said, according to state media company Irib.
