Criminal investigation launched against two ICE agents

Federal authorities in the US have launched a criminal investigation against two representatives of the immigration police ICE.

The two are accused of perjury.

The investigation concerns interrogations into the circumstances of a shooting of a Venezuelan man – who was injured in the leg – in connection with a search for irregular migrants in Minneapolis.

The announcement of the investigation was made by ICE deputy director Todd Lyons on Friday. The two people were not named, and have also been temporarily suspended from active duty.

The announcement came after a federal judge dropped charges against two men who allegedly attacked ICE agents with a broom and a snow shovel on January 14.

Federal ICE's brutal and deadly operations in Minneapolis have been criticized for, among other things, excessive force.
