BNP wins landslide victory in Bangladesh election
The BNP is victorious in the election in Bangladesh, several media outlets report. The nationalist party has won a landslide victory in the country's first election since Sheikh Hasina was forced from power in 2024.
The party will win 209 of the 300 seats in parliament, writes CNN.
"Despite the BNP winning the national parliamentary election by a large margin, no celebrations or demonstrations will be organized," the party wrote after the victory.
The BNP is led by Tarique Rahman, the son of Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. He returned to the country in December last year after 17 years in exile.
The party has campaigned, among other things, to improve the economy for poor families and introduce a ten-year maximum limit on how long a prime minister can be in power.
