Crown Princess Mette-Marit is receiving increasingly strong criticism in Norway after revelations about her extensive contacts with the now deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“The Crown Princess has herself said that she has shown poor judgment, and I agree with that,” writes Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Norwegian media are wondering how the Norwegian royal family will get out of the ongoing crisis.

“This has developed into an acute crisis over the weekend,” writes NRK's foreign affairs editor Sigurd Falkenberg Mikkelsen, and is supported by VG, among others.

“Based on what we already know, it doesn’t look good. The Crown Princess has a lot to explain,” writes the newspaper’s Hanne Skartveit, warning both that more revelations may come and that the royal family must work hard to get through the crisis.

Jonas Gahr Støre also comments on the information.

“I understand that many people react to what comes out in the documents. I do too,” he writes according to Norwegian media.

The comment also applies to former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland, who, according to the released documents, planned joint investments with Epstein.

Jagland and his family are also said to have planned to visit Epstein on his island in the Caribbean. After the revelation, several representatives of Jagland’s Labor Party have urged him to leave the party.
