Iran's new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei is still recovering from severe facial and leg injuries he sustained in an airstrike at the start of the war, several media outlets reported, citing Reuters.

Khamenei the younger's face was reportedly disfigured in the same attack in central Tehran that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He is also said to have been seriously injured in one or both legs, three anonymous sources close to the leader's inner circle told the news agency.

The 56-year-old is recovering from his injuries and is said to still be mentally sharp and involved in decision-making on issues related to the war against the US and Israel.

Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since he was appointed as the new supreme leader and statements have only been made in writing.

Reuters has not been able to confirm the sources' descriptions.
