Brazilian President Lula being treated for skin cancer
Brazilian President Lula da Silva has been diagnosed with an early form of skin cancer, several media outlets report.
The 80-year-old president began preventive radiation treatment on Monday after having surgery to remove a skin lesion, Reuters reports.
According to the presidential office, the treatment will not affect his daily work. Lula da Silva is expected to run for re-election in October, where he will face Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
In several opinion polls, Lula da Silva is leading Flavio Bolsonaro ahead of a possible second round of elections.

Canadians' Vegas boycott could benefit the Democrats
The entertainment city of Las Vegas in the Nevada desert could be an ace up the Democrats' sleeve ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, Politico reports.
Donald Trump's policies have made Canadians in particular look for travel destinations other than Las Vegas, something that Democrats can now use to protect their mandates in November.
Canadians account for up to half of the annual tourism to the city, but after Trump's tariff war and talk of Canada as a future US state, the number of visitors decreased by 17 percent in 2025.
Las Vegas also had its weakest tourism year in 2025 since the pandemic years.
- Trump imposed his reckless tariffs. In response, Canadians have literally boycotted travel to the US. It has had a significant impact on our tourism, says Democrat and Congresswoman Susie Lee.

More people pretend to be immigration police in the US
The number of cases in which people pretend to be from the immigration police ICE in the US has increased, reports NBC News, citing an investigation by Noticias Telemundo.
Last year, 31 cases were reported, a sharp increase from the average of 5.3 cases per year.
A Mexican migrant was robbed in his home in the middle of the night last January after four people broke in and shouted that they were from ICE while kicking in his bedroom door.
“I put my hands up and he said, ‘Where’s the money?’ That’s when I realized it was a robbery. It wasn’t ICE. It wasn’t the police,” the man says.
So far this year, Noticias Telemundo has documented six cases of people pretending to be ICE agents.
