Several children injured in shooting in New York

At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting at Coney Island in Brooklyn late Saturday night local time, reports ABC News.

Police responded to the shooting in the New York borough at 10 p.m. on Saturday in connection with the National Day celebration, the New York Police Department said in a statement.

Four children aged six, seven, twelve and 14 were injured. In addition, two women, 25 and 21 years old, and two men, 37 and 33 years old, were injured.

“All victims were taken to nearby hospitals by paramedics, where seven people are reported to be in stable condition,” police wrote, adding that the 21-year-old woman is in critical condition.

A firearm has been seized but no one has been arrested, according to police.
