12 of the 13 people who died in the forest fire that hit the area near Almería, Spain, were foreign nationals, Spanish authorities said.

The fire broke out on Thursday after an electric cable fell onto a road and spread quickly in the high temperatures and strong winds. About 7,000 hectares were destroyed in the fire, which is one of the deadliest in the country in recent years.

Authorities have now identified the people who died in connection with the fire. According to a statement, all the deceased were adults and the foreign nationals came from Britain, Belgium, France and the United States.
