Pentagon dismisses reports: There is no indication that the plane was shot down by anti-aircraft fire
There is no indication that the Wagner leader's plane was shot down by anti-aircraft fire, says Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder during a press conference.
The information contradicts Reuters' previous information that the plane was probably shot down by Russian air defenses from inside the country.
- Our preliminary assessment is that it is highly likely that Prigozhin was murdered, but we have no information that indicates what the press is saying. So that the plane was shot down, our assessment is that it is false, says Ryder.
Parts of the crashed Wagner plane are being investigated in the Tver region AP
US source: Air defenses on Russian soil caused the crash
The United States believes that Russian air defenses shot down the plane with Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin on board, American sources told Reuters.
The sources, who wish to remain anonymous due to the sensitive situation, also state that the robot must have been fired from Russian soil.
The plane should have functioned without problems until 30 seconds before the crash, writes Reuters. This according to data from the flight tracking site FlightRadar24, which shows that the minute before it starts acting erratically and then starts flying straight down towards the ground.
