Donald Trump: Attacks on Iran Paused for Two Weeks
The US is pausing attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided that Iran immediately agrees to open the Strait of Hormuz, Donald Trump announced on Truth Social.
The announcement comes after Pakistan's Prime Minister earlier on Tuesday appealed to Trump to postpone the night's deadline.
"This will be a bilateral ceasefire!", Trump wrote.
He stated that the US had received a ten-point list from Iran, which he sees as a good starting point for negotiations.
He also wrote that the attacks are paused because the US has already achieved and exceeded its military objectives in Iran, something he has repeated on several occasions recently.
"Almost all previous issues of dispute between the US and Iran have been agreed to, but a two-week period will allow the agreement to be finalized and completed."
Iran has confirmed that it has agreed to a ceasefire.
Israel has also accepted a two-week ceasefire, White House sources tell CNN.
Iran confirms deal – Trump mocked in state media
Iran's
Supreme National Security Council confirms that the country has agreed
to a two-week ceasefire and describes it as a victory, reports CNN.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the country will "cease its defensive operations," reports The New York Times.
"For
a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will
be possible in coordination with Iran's armed forces," he says in a
statement.
Donald Trump's announcement that the attacks on Iran
will be paused for two weeks has also been leaked to Iranian state
media. And the statement is mocked there, reports the BBC.
A headline in Irinn reads: “Trump declares two-week ceasefire – accepts Iran’s terms to end war”
Irinn also describes it as “Trump’s humiliating retreat from anti-Iran rhetoric.”
