Domestic criticism of Trump's threats
The world has reacted to Donald Trump's threat that "an entire civilization will die tonight".
There are also voices from the United States that the president must tone down his rhetoric - and above all not attack Iran with the brutality he suggests.
"Not a single bomb has been dropped on the United States. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is pure evil and madness."
The words about Trump's threat to Iran come from the United States, but not from any Democrat, but from the president's former ally Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Republican and former Trump-loyal politician who has harshly criticized the president in recent months.
She also writes on X “25th Amendment!!!”, referring to the amendment to the Constitution that the president can be declared incapable of performing his duties by the vice president and a majority of the government.
Time to say no
She is supported by the usually Trump-loyal Tucker Carlson, former program host on Fox News. In his own podcast, he criticizes Trump and accuses his Easter post of making fun of both Christianity and Islam.– It is time to say no, absolutely no, and say it directly to the president, he says according to The Wall Street Journal.
But Trump is of course also receiving criticism from the Democrats.
The party’s Senate leader Chuck Schumer says according to NBC News that Trump is “an extremely sick person” and his party colleague Hakeem Jeffries, the House minority leader, is urging Republicans in Congress to stop the war “before Trump throws us into World War III”.
– Put your patriotic duty before the party and stop this madness, he says.
Not at war with the people
Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin does not go that far, but he is appealing to the White House to reconsider.
– I hope and pray that this was just something President Trump blurted out. I do not want to see us blow up a civilian infrastructure, he says according to NBC News.
– We are not at war with the Iranian people. We are trying to liberate them.
