Hegseth fires navy chief - responsible for developing the "Golden Fleet"
US Navy Secretary John Phelan has been dismissed after internal conflicts within the defense leadership, Bloomberg reports.
The decision was made by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump, according to the White House.
According
to the New York Times, Phelan's relationship with his superior Hegseth
has been strained for months. The Defense Secretary reportedly believed
that the Navy Secretary had mishandled the mission to develop the
so-called "Golden Fleet." This includes what the administration has
described as a new class of "battleships" named after President Trump.
Defense
Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired a number of top names from the
Pentagon since the Iran war began. Although the Navy is participating in
the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Phelan is not directly involved
in that operation, according to Bloomberg.
FBI investigated reporter who wrote about Patel's girlfriend
The
New York Times reports that one of its reporters, Elizabeth Williamson,
has been investigated for stalking by the FBI. The information comes
from a source with insight.
The investigation was reportedly
initiated after Williamson wrote an article about how federal resources
were used to protect and transport FBI Director Kash Patel's girlfriend,
Alexis Wilkins.
According to the newspaper, the FBI collected
information about Williamson and recommended further investigation, but
the Justice Department stopped it.
New York Times editor-in-chief Joseph Kahn calls the FBI's actions "alarming."
