Twin tropical storms hit Japan – elderly man dead
Two tropical storms are simultaneously hitting western Japan, while the country's rainy season is in full swing. The heavy rains have caused landslides and flooding. One person has died, reports the AP.
More than two million people have been urged to evacuate their homes.
A man in his 70s died and three others were injured when a house collapsed after a landslide in Yamaguchi prefecture.
More than 30 homes were flooded in the cities of Nara and Hiroshima on Friday, according to Japan's disaster management agency. Train and air traffic have also been affected by the weather.
More than 200 flights canceled in the storm: "The rain won't stop falling"
More than 200 flights have been canceled and train traffic was significantly affected, after twin tropical storms moved in over southeast Asia, reports Reuters.
Storms Mekkhala and Higos, combined with the usual rainy season, have caused warnings of heavy rain, flooding and landslides in Japan and Taiwan.
“Yesterday it wasn’t that bad, but this morning the rain hasn’t stopped,” said Chi, who owns a bakery in Zhibei, Taiwan.
