Peace talks
Uncertainty surrounding talks in Qatar – Trump and Iran give completely different messages
There are different offers about alleged peace talks from the warring parties, the US and Iran, after a week in which attacks were directed at several targets in and around the Persian Gulf, several media outlets report.
Donald Trump claims that Iran has asked for a meeting in Qatar on Tuesday. At the same time, Iran says that there are no talks planned. The American president writes on Truth Social that new talks "will take place" in Doha on Tuesday, a claim denied by Iranian officials.
Trump is trying to maintain an increasingly fragile agreement on a temporary ceasefire, writes AP. The countries are said to have agreed on Sunday to pause the new attacks and talk to each other.
Israel-Hezbollah
Israel has blown up Hezbollah's tunnel in southern Lebanon
The Israeli military has blown up a 200-meter-long tunnel in southern Lebanon, reports AFP. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, it contained hundreds of weapons and several launch pads aimed at Israel.
Lebanon's state news agency NNA reported that several attacks were carried out in the area on Sunday. The terrorist group Hezbollah condemned the operation as a violation of the ceasefire and said that the movement reserves the right to defend Lebanon.
The attacks come despite the fact that Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement for peace on Friday, with the support of the United States. Hezbollah is not a party to the agreement.
