Netanyahu moves forward with criticized investigation

Last week, demonstrations were organized in Tel Aviv to mark 1,000 days since Hamas's deadly terror attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Relatives' groups accuse Netanyahu of caring more about power than the victims.

The opposition chose not to attend the vote. The Israeli parliament is still moving forward with a bill for a politically appointed inquiry into the handling of the October 7, 2023 terror attacks.

The bill was hammered through the Israeli parliament on Monday despite the opposition boycotting the vote and criticism that the bill will not lead to an independent investigation.

The opposition has instead pushed for an independent judicial review of the current government's handling of the Hamas terror attack and hostage-taking on October 7, 2023.

Despite widespread support for such a review among the Israeli population, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refuses to appoint an independent review, citing the bias of the judiciary.

As the bill currently stands, a total of six members are advocated for a newly established commission. However, if the opposition continues its boycott, it will be sufficient for three members to be appointed by the incumbent government.

The October Council, a group of relatives, criticizes the government, writes the Times of Israel:

“This shameful law is not meant to reveal the truth, but to bury it.”

The bill for a politically appointed commission is expected to be passed in the parliament’s constitutional committee next week.
