Netanyahu: Villages in Lebanon Want to Be Annexed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims that several Christian villages in Lebanon have explicitly asked to be annexed by Israel, reports AFP.

– We protect them from Hezbollah fanatics who want to kill them, and we do the same for Christians everywhere, he says on the Fox News program “The Sunday Briefing”.

Netanyahu does not give any examples of villages that have expressed this desire.

On Friday, several Christian villages in southern Lebanon denied media reports that they had sought Israeli annexation.

Representatives of the villages stressed their “loyalty to our national identity” and “tie to the Lebanese flag”.

Jewelry heist worth 44 million SEK

Jewelry worth millions of euros has been stolen from the museum of luxury glass manufacturer Lalique in Wingen-sur-Moder in northeastern France.

The heist took place early Sunday morning. A gang of masked thieves broke into the museum's jewelry room and smashed six display cases, a source familiar with the investigation said.

- About twenty pieces of jewelry were stolen. The value of the loss is being determined but could amount to several million euros, probably closer to four million, the source said.

Four million euros is equivalent to 44 million Swedish kronor.

This comes just a few months after a high-profile jewelry heist at the Louvre in Paris.

According to sources, crystal jewelry was stolen, which means it cannot be melted down.

No one has yet been arrested.

Over 3,000 confirmed dead after Venezuela quake

More than 3,300 people have been confirmed dead after the twin earthquakes in Venezuela on June 24, Reuters reports.

The number of injured has risen to just over 16,400 and more than 17,300 people have been left homeless.

Many Venezuelans have expressed anger at the authorities, who they say did not do enough to save lives before international rescue workers arrived.

In a speech, interim President Delcy Rodriguez said Venezuela will not be divided after the quake.

“We will not have any social unrest here. What we have is deep social solidarity,” she says.
