The death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela at the end of June has risen to 3,342, according to official figures released on Sunday, AFP reports.

This is an increase from 2,954 deaths on Saturday.

The official number of injured has risen from around 16,000 to around 16,700.

Authorities buried more than 150 unidentified bodies in a long row of individual graves on Sunday, as witnessed by AFP journalists.

The devastation is enormous after the two earthquakes on June 24 and thousands of people are still missing.

The first earthquake measured 7.2, according to the US Geological Survey. The second measured 7.5.

The tremors were the strongest to hit Venezuela in over a century and occurred within a minute near the coastal town of Morón.
