Iran and Oman may have taken a small step closer to an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz.

The countries' foreign ministers jointly state that they have "discussed a framework agreement that can gradually form a feasible basis to move forward with". According to the written statement, this includes a corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and an agreement to jointly clear all mines in the strait.

Negotiations will continue to find a "permanent corridor and a future administration for the strait" as well as a mechanism for sharing information.

Both sides also emphasize the importance of discussing the issue with all countries that have a coast on the Persian Gulf.

The statement comes just hours after US President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that all mines in the strait have been cleared.
