EU condemns Israel's settlement plan in the West Bank

Criticism is growing against Israel's settlement project in the occupied West Bank.

Now the EU is also calling on the country to stop the project, which in Israel is called E1.

"The EU's position is clear: Israel's settlements in the West Bank, including the E1 area, violate international law," the union wrote in a statement.

Britain, France, Germany and Italy have previously unanimously condemned Israel's plans. Sweden has also supported the criticism.

In recent years, violence from Israeli settlers towards Palestinians has increased in the occupied West Bank. Earlier in August, the Israeli military intervened against settlers who were besieging Palestinian homes in the village of Qusra.
