France to provide military support to Saudi Arabia
France is to send "military assets" to protect the Saudi port city of Yanbu, which has been attacked by the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen.
"We will send military assets—that is, troops, radar, and defense systems," French President Emmanuel Macron said in a French television interview.
The UK has previously pledged military support to Saudi Arabia; among other measures, a British aerial refueling tanker is set to assist in refueling Saudi fighter jets.
On Saturday, the Houthi movement attacked the Saudi capital, Riyadh, for the first time in several years. The attack was described as a major escalation of the conflict.
The port of Yanbu is vital for Saudi oil exports.
