Fatal attack on vessel in the Strait of Hormuz
At least two people died when a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an "unknown projectile," according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the British Navy's maritime surveillance agency.
The vessel is on fire and drifting, according to the report on Wednesday's attack. The entire crew has reportedly been evacuated, and two fatalities have been confirmed.
Commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been severely restricted since the US and Israel attacked Iran in February of this year, triggering a broader conflict in the region. Iran is blocking the strait, while the US Navy is blocking Iranian maritime traffic in the area.
