Anti-government Tigrayan rebels in northern Ethiopia are clashing with government forces and have seized control of several airports, multiple sources have told AFP.

Sporadic fighting has occurred in recent months, raising fears that a new war could be brewing.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) fought a bloody war against government forces between 2020 and 2022. According to the African Union, an estimated 600,000 people were killed during the conflict.
