Democrats demand answers regarding Trump’s use of AI
What does Donald Trump’s use of AI tools look like? Two Democratic members of Congress are demanding an answer to this question. According to previous reports, the President allegedly consulted Elon Musk’s AI tool, Grok, regarding the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
In a letter sent last Wednesday, Democrats Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia argue that any queries posed by Trump and his advisors to AI tools must, by law, be recorded as part of the presidential archives.
“If the President of the United States is relying on policy advice from a Musk-designed, Hitler-friendly chatbot with a penchant for child pornography to carry out his official duties, the American people have a right to know,” the letter states.
This phrasing alludes to previous controversies in which Grok generated antisemitic statements and images depicting children in a sexualized manner.
According to reports, during a meeting with Elon Musk at the White House last December, Trump spent a significant amount of time asking Grok how the Venezuelan population might react if US forces were to capture the country’s leader, Nicolás Maduro.
Grok reportedly responded that many in Venezuela would welcome such an action. A few weeks later, Maduro was captured; however, it has not been confirmed whether the AI tool—or its response—played a decisive role. In their letter, Raskin and Garcia demand a meeting to receive a briefing covering the President’s use of AI, the security protocols in place, and whether external parties have access to sensitive information.
