Reports: 41,000 names leaked from US government agencies

More than 41,000 names of employees at the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have been leaked in a cyberattack, * The Washington Post * reports.

The leak includes, among other things, the names of individuals with classified identities.

The breach came to light after a database containing the information was uploaded to the internet on Wednesday. *The Washington Post* states that it has verified the authenticity of the data with the help of officials from the department.

Personnel from agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP)—both of which fall under the department—are reportedly among those included in the data. The material is also said to contain information regarding job duties and technical equipment.

The Department of Homeland Security is “aware of a potential breach and is actively working to address the situation quickly and effectively,” a spokesperson said, according to the BBC.
