Scholz's nightmare figures: Two out of three want a new government
Nearly two-thirds, 64 percent, of German voters want to replace the current government, led by Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz. That's according to a survey published by German Bild. 70 percent are dissatisfied with the government's work, while only 22 percent think it is doing a good job.
Hermann Binkert, director of the opinion institute INSA, describes the whole thing as a "twilight" for Scholz.
One of the reasons for the setbacks for the ruling traffic light coalition is judged to be internal contradictions. Among other things, Family Minister Lisa Paus (The Greens) has stopped a support package for German industry.

Experts: Fighter jets give Ukraine room to maneuver
Ukraine has been promised 42 F-16 fighter jets by the Netherlands and Denmark. The additions are not only the first aircraft promised to Ukraine – they are also expected to have a major impact on the country's defense, according to military strategist Johan Huovinen at the Norwegian Defense Academy.
- Now operations can be carried out around the clock. Several carts can be up and you have time to service them in between. It also gives endurance, he tells TT.
Ukraine has lacked a strong air force throughout the war. The country's troops along the front in the east of the country are therefore vulnerable to Russian warplanes, Danmarks Radio states. If they can get their own planes in the air, they can keep Russian SU-35 planes at a more competent distance.
The fighter jets can also be used against targets beyond the front line.
- This will mean that the Ukrainians, to a greater extent, will be able to give their forces greater maneuvering space on the ground, says Karsten Marrup, major at the Danish Defense Academy, to DR.

The presidential election in Ecuador
Assassination attempt on politician in Ecuador - shortly before the election
Francisco Tamariz, mayor of the city of La Libertad in Ecuador, says he was the victim of an assassination attempt last Friday night, AFP reports. Tamariz says several people, some dressed in police uniforms, fired 30 shots at the car he was traveling in.
“It was not a coincidence. The shots were aimed at where I was," he writes on the platform X, formerly Twitter.
Today, Sunday, Ecuador goes to presidential elections. The election campaign has been bloody with two murders. A couple of weeks ago, the presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio was shot dead in connection with a campaign meeting. On Monday, a local politician was killed in the province of Esmeraldas in northern Ecuador.
