The royals who work the most and the least

In a typical week, Princess Anne had between 12 and 14 missions this past year, beating the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, by horse lengths.
Despite not being a teenager anymore and not directly heir to the throne, Princess Anne was the hardest working of all royals in the UK in 2023.
- She just works on, says Dickie Arbiter, former press spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth.
2023 was also the year King Charles was crowned and he also turned 75. In the old days, he must therefore put in another gear and take on royal assignments with new energy.
But together with his sister Anne, 73 years old, he keeps the flame up in the British royal house.
Princess Anne had 457 engagements during the year, which the British newspaper Telegraph has calculated by analyzing the royal calendar.
She tops the league of hard-working royals, and February was her most intense month when she visited Australia and New Zealand, among other things, and had a total of 57 items to tick off in the royal schedule.
- The institution needs her very much, says the royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams to the newspaper. The public sees her as a down-to-earth person.

Princess Anne is popular
He thinks Princess Anne is the best advertisement for the royal family because she is such a hard worker.
- She is popular because of the way she approaches things.
One of the reasons why the princess is seen more and more often is of course due to the fact that her mother, Queen Elizabeth, passed away in 2022. Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, now also lives in the United States together with his wife Meghan Markle.
King Charles came in second on the list of the most overworked royals, with 425 royal assignments.
His brother Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, came third.

William and Kate face criticism
A typical day in the King's new life involved him visiting a charity with its vegetable garden and meeting both volunteers and staff. In the afternoon, an art exhibition was on the schedule.
That the Prince of Wales, Prince William, only had 172 assignments during the year and his wife Kate, only 123, raises some questions, the newspaper thinks.
- The majority of assignments are now done by people who are retired, or approaching that limit.
Both Prince Edward and his wife Sophie are in their 60s.
But Dickie Arbiter, a royal expert and also a former employee of the court as press spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth, thinks that Princess Anne is a fantastic support for King Charles.
- She just works on, often with several engagements per day. He bounces ideas around with her, and for an aging monarchy, they do a good job.
