Israel's attack on the al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza on Christmas Eve led to "extensive" civilian casualties. This is what a source within the Israeli Defense Forces told the local public service channel Kan News according to the Times of Israel.
"The type of ammunition used was not suitable for the attack, causing extensive civilian damage that could have been avoided," the source said.
The Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health says at least 68 people died in the attack.
The BBC has asked the IDF about the source's testimony and received the answer that they are working to investigate the incident.
"We regret that civilians have been killed and are working to draw lessons from the incident," writes the military in a comment.
