Ukrainian minister: Europe does not know how to make war
Russia has successfully managed to convert to a war economy, but "Europe does not know how to make war". This is what Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says in an interview with the Kyiv Independent.
He states that the defense industry in Russia is owned by the government and that it is easier for the authoritarian regime to change strategy. European countries have sharper technology, but have great difficulty in increasing production, says the minister. This could lead to Russia gaining an upper hand.
- I'm sorry to say it, but this will not be enough if the situation does not change.

The Russian invasion The peace negotiations
New York Times editorial: Ukraine should negotiate peace
If Vladimir Putin is serious about being ready for a ceasefire, Ukraine should take the chance, even though it hasn't regained all its territory, New York Times editorial writer Serge Schmemann thinks.
The proposal is controversial and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has strongly dismissed similar ideas. But Schmemann argues that Putin is still the loser – and that reclaimed territory is not the only way to measure success.
"True victory for Ukraine is to rise from the hell of war as a strong, independent, prosperous and secure state, firmly anchored in the West," he writes.
The war is at a standstill and the Western world's money will soon run out, which is why Schmemann believes that there is no room for "false hopes". Peace negotiations will be difficult, but not impossible – and will not prevent Ukraine from regaining all its land in the future, he concludes.

Details: Putin talked about five-year war with Xi
When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in March this year, Putin reportedly said that Russia was ready for a long war in Ukraine.
- We will fight for five years if necessary, he is said to have said during the meeting, according to Nikkei Asia's diplomatic sources.
According to the information, this was an attempt by Putin to persuade Xi that a long war is in Russia's favor and that China should therefore be on Russia's side.
Shortly after the meeting, however, China sent a delegation to Europe with the goal of negotiating a peace plan, which the newspaper's expert interprets as Xi not at all believing that Russia would benefit from a long war.

Russia: Finland first to be affected by escalation
Finland will be the first country to be affected if tensions between Russia and NATO escalate. This is what Russian top diplomat Mikhail Ulyanov says to the state-run Russian news agency Ria, several media reports.
The neighboring country lived in peace until it joined NATO last spring, according to Ulyanov. Now Finland has "suddenly found itself caught between Russia and NATO".
- They are our neighbors and if - God forbid - any kind of escalation happens, they will be the first to suffer, says the diplomat.
Russia has repeatedly warned Finland that countermeasures await after the country's NATO entry.
