Expert: It is becoming increasingly clear that it was a "chicken race"
Something must have happened in the Turkish-American talks about the F16 plane which means that the Turkish Foreign Affairs Committee is now giving the green light to Sweden's application to NATO. This is what Michael Sahlin, former ambassador to Turkey, tells TV4 Nyheterna.
He points out that the members during the committee's last meeting spoke about the issue not being "mature" enough, but that something has now happened. This shortly after Turkey and the US discussed a possible sale to Ankara.
- It has been obvious and increasingly clear that there has been a kind of "chicken race" between the USA and Turkey.
A vote in the Turkish parliament could take place as early as Friday. Hungary has previously stated that it will not be the last country to approve Sweden.

Analysis: Hardened Swedes don't hope for too much
A step closer, but no breakthrough. That's what SR correspondent Johan Mathias Sommarström says after the news that Turkey's foreign affairs committee forwarded Sweden's NATO application to parliament.
According to Sommarström, Tuesday's approval came after "squeaky exchanges" and there is still Turkish resistance. He does not believe that Parliament will deal with the issue in the near future.
- You must have cold feet if you are someone who wants Sweden to join NATO quickly.
Sommarström, like SVT's Tomas Thorén, highlights the importance of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan having recently had a meeting with America's Joe Biden about a Turkish purchase of F16 planes.
Thorén also speaks of a step forward, but emphasizes that more remains to be done.
- We have previously seen many trips in this 19-month long process.
Turkey expert Paul Levin tells TT that the Swedish government is probably satisfied that the process is moving forward.
- But many Swedes have been hardened and know that there is no point in hoping for too much before it is completely clear.
