The tourist submarine Titan imploded during a voyage in the Atlantic on June 23. Five people died. In the picture, ships can be seen participating in the search effort.
Early in the morning of June 6, the Kakhovka Dam on the Dnipro River burst. The devastation to animals, nature and people became extensive when huge masses of water flooded the area. Russia is believed to have been behind the incident.
The hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica was during the year one of the largest ever, according to the European Space Agency. The area is about three times the size of Brazil.
Image of forest fires in Canada this summer. Global warming is leading to more forest fires in the country, according to researchers at McGill University.
Space X space capsule docks with the International Space Station ISS on March 3, following problems with the capsule's docking mechanism.
The war in Ukraine will soon enter its second year. A drone image from the Ukrainian military shows what are believed to be dead Russian soldiers outside Avdijivka on December 17.
The volcanic activity in Iceland's Grindavik caused havoc in the resort. The drone image from November 16 shows a damaged road crossing.
On February 6, Turkey and Syria were hit by an earthquake of magnitude 7.8. A satellite image from Nasa shows the areas where damage to buildings and infrastructure was greatest. Close to 60,000 people died.
